Mesotherapy is an incredibly versatile skin rejuvenation treatment with a multitude of applications. It can be used to rejuvenate the face, neck, décolletage and hands and to reduce fat around the buttocks, arms, jowls and abdomen. It can also be used to treat thinning hair/hair loss, dehydration, dark circles, cellulite and stretch marks.

Mesotherapy involves the superficial micro-injection of a carefully prepared cocktail of substances into the mesoderm, the area of skin where cell growth and repair takes place.

Depending on the desired outcome, these nourishing agents may include vitamins (A, B, C, E or K), hyaluronic acid, minerals or amino acids. These substances are all naturally occurring; this treatment merely replenishes their levels. Stimulation of this area of your skin (by the injection itself, as well as the substances applied) allows improvement of skin elasticity and tone. Think of it as a concentrated skin supplement bullet, targeting the exact area of concern

Traditional mesotherapy is well renowned for its weight loss benefits. It involves injecting quantities of essential vitamins, pharmaceuticals, minerals and other natural extracts directly into the skin, and providing the body with everything it needs to improve circulation and break down the lipid fat building in the bloodstream. These are what is responsible for causing those unsightly lumps and bumps.

What Can It Help With?

Sometimes referred to as 'lipodissolve' due to its ability to blitz lipid fat, mesotherapy is something of an 'all-round' wonder treatment. Whilst it is a minimally invasive alternative to fat removal, localised weight loss and anti-ageing, mesotherapy can also combat a whole host of other complaints. Not only does it target cellulite and fatty tissue, mesotherapy will actively work to contour and tighten the skin; improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage; deliver nutrients to the hair follicles, improve skin elasticity, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and even improve the look of stretch marks and acne scarring. Treated skin will even appear firmer, more toned and more hydrated with a visibly luminous finish.

FAQ on Mesotherapy

1Are There Any Side Effects?
Solutions that are used in mesotherapy are bespoke, and will endeavour to treat your particular problem areas. This means that side effects may vary from patient to patient, although are always minimal. The body finds the solution administered during mesotherapy very easy to absorb, and as a result, it is no more traumatic to the body than receiving a large, concentrated dose of nutrients. Mesotherapy also has significantly fewer side effects than traditional fat removal methods such as liposuction or BodyTite, as there are no incisions made or sedation required. Some of the small side effects of mesotherapy can include minor swelling, sensitivity, redness, itching, temporary bruising or slight bulging around the injection sites as the solution settles. These symptoms will typically subside within 24-48 hours of injections, and will heal leaving no scarring whatsoever.
2How Long Does it Take?
Mesotherapy typically takes between 30-60 minutes to complete. As there is no sedation required, mesotherapy treatments are just as straightforward as popping into the clinic for something small such as facial or a massage. It should be noted that if opting for traditional needle mesotherapy over the electro-method, patients do have the option to prepare the injection sites with a numbing agent beforehand. This, however, will likely extend your treatment by an additional 30-60 minutes so the anaesthetic has time to take effect.
3How Long is Recovery?
The results of mesotherapy are immediate and treatment comes with practically no downtime whatsoever. Patients may feel a little tender or sore after meso treatment but these symptoms typically do not exceed the 48 hour mark. By this point, your new meso-glow should have begun to take over and any visible side effects of treatment will have vanished.
4How Long Until I Can Return to Work?
Both traditional and electro mesotherapy are extremely straightforward and should not prevent you from working at all. Patients are generally comfortable to return to normality the very same day, and with neither treatment requiring any bandaging or heavy dressing, patients ordinarily have no trouble concealing injection sites or being inconspicuous about treatment if they so wish. It should be noted, however, that on occasion, injection sites may remain a little sore for a few days, so if you job is particularly hands-on or boisterous you may wish to let this settle before returning to work. Doctors will be happy to advise you on this based on your personal circumstances.
5How Long Do The Results Last For?
Mesotherapy is one of the longer lasting, non-invasive treatments offered at Harley Street Skin. Outcomes will of course be impacted by your lifestyle moving forward - with results best maintained when paired with regular exercise and nutrition - but you can expect to wear the results of mesotherapy for up to a year and a half. Your skin will return to its default, pre-treatment state within 12-18 months of mesotherapy.
